CASE STUDY: PCR Windows Tablet PC on the Worksite Increases Productivity
Asset Management Services is based in Auckland, New Zealand is owned and operated by Keith Bennett.
For the majority of time, Keith operates as a one-man-band working with home and business owners to improve building structures. He provides building, painting and landscape services, including exterior house washing, spouting repair or replacement, decks, and bathroom or kitchen renovations.
Recently Keith purchased a PCR Tablet to improve his own business processes.
BENEFITS OF USING A PC TABLET ON THE JOB SITE
Keith says that using the PCR tablet has completely changed the way he works.
“Having a full computer system onsite helps hugely; being able to invoice people, accessing suppliers, search for products and make enquiries straight away.”
The key benefit that Keith has found is the amount of office work he is now able to complete while out on jobs.
“It’s enabling me to do a lot more office work at work. I find that it is easier to complete work tasks on the Tablet PC than using a phone. The tablet is more friendly on the websites, with a larger work surface. Typing on a phone is horrible and the tablet makes it far easier,” he says.
One of the main improvements to his business is the ability to issue invoices during the work day. He can now invoice people on the job as soon as he has finished. Keith said that he was once told that he should be allowing 20 mins to half an hour for every invoice – and he was having to do that at home. Not only was Keith not charging for that time spent working on invoices after hours, it was also eating into his personal time.
Keith knew what a Windows tablet PC should be able to do for his business and he says it has completely lived up to his expectations.
THE VERDICT
Having a PC tablet on the job has made Keith’s business more streamlined and more efficient. Having the one computer system on the tablet means he doesn’t have to transfer any work to another device when he returns home. He is currently in the process of setting up a full work station at home – using a Targus Docking Station to connect an external monitor, full keyboard and mouse. This will make his work at home even faster to complete.
His advice to other small businesses and one-man-band operations is to start using a PC Tablet – as it makes for a seamless transition between work and home. It also allows far more computer work to be done on the road, improving processes, professionalism and efficiency.
